URCA is excited to support the further development of the ICT sector through the work of the Bahamas International Film Festival’s Film Workshop. By encouraging the development of innovative and quality content production by young persons in The Bahamas, we are fulfilling one of our key objectives under the Communications Act, and the Government’s Electronic Communications Policy. We look forward to supporting similar initiatives in the future."

“The Sandyport Beach Resort family is very proud to be associated with this amazing opportunity in the creative arts for so many of our young and not so young Bahamians. The possibilities of careers in the filmmaking arena will be showcased and demonstrated giving attendees knowledge that may lead them in to the creative world of film. We look forward to hosting some of the workshops here at Sandyport Beach Resort,” Vernon Moss Sandyport Beach Resort General Manager.

It's an honor and joy to participate as a filmmaker and teacher in the Youth Film Workshop because essentially the greatest treasures in the world are the stories each human carries with them.  Likewise, helping in this very meaningful way to empower students with the knowledge and tools of how to visually share their stories through film is beautiful and powerful.  Making a film takes collaborative teamwork that combines hands on learning with innovative conceptual planning.  It involves showcasing ancient storytelling techniques with the help of cutting-edge digital technology.   Essentially, students can learn more from a few days of participating in Leslie Vanderpool's film workshops than perhaps they can in a whole year of merely preparing for a standardized test.   Furthermore, students are not only being empowered with the knowledge of how to make films, but  encouraged further with the amazing opportunity to then watch how their work effects a live audience during the Bahamas International Film Festival!  This is the type of program that changes not only the lives of the students who participate, but also the lives of others that each student will go on to influence from the seeds that were planted during the film workshops.  In short, teaching film workshops to youth, senior citizens, and prisoners is the type of program that's needed around the world because it's the type of instructional endeavor that has the power to do what education is truly meant to do - positively change and enrich lives forever by helping each individual awaken to the beauty and aboutness of their own artistic voice.
